EARNING AND SAVING WITH A KNITTING MACHINE

This introduction to the PROFITABLE KNITTING SERIES examines ways of machine knitting for profit. The book explains, in a clear and candid way, the methods, problems and costing. It also suggests where to sell, how to sell, and whether enough money can be earned to make it worthwhile.

CHOOSING AND BUYING A KNITTING MACHINE

Knitting machines are as useful to people who knit as sewing machines are to people who sew. The choice of domestic machines, as shown in this book, was wide. The manufacture of domestic knitting machines has now declined to one firm.

YARNS FOR THE KNITTER

There is a very large choice of knitting yarns in the UK. However, as the choice grows larger it becomes more difficult to know which yarns are best for a particular purpose.

The High Street ‘wool’ shop has all but disappeared, though yarn can be purchased in the larger department stores. The adventurous knitter can buy directly from the mill or over the internet. The book explains how to combine industrial ‘fine’ yarns into original knitting yarns, how to understand yarn sizing and how to estimate yarn needs.
